Default Tiger in progress

Hello there,

I am posting this in the hope that it will force me to finally finish this key fob I started a while ago.
I picked it up again during this holiday and I somehow hope that writing a thread on it ill FORCE me to finish it!
Unless my work schedule gets completely crazy, I might be able to post another picture at the end of next week! Fingers crossed!
OK, now I 'm going back to it!
I'm also trying to take decent pictures, but I realise I really need a lightbox to make a decent job.

Hi and thank you all for your warm welcome!

Ron: I've just had a look at you site and I absolutely love the "feel' of the skin that you have managed to give to your nudes. It's breathtaking!
And your tiger is a thing of beauty.
I hope mine will turn out as I'd like it to be. I almost actually gave up on it as I was not happy with the eyes but they look a bit better now.

Roger: yes, you are right, I am indeed guilty as charged!
Well, I use hammer and chisel but use the push graver for animals and shading of scrolls.
I hope that this year I'll be able to engrave portraits of people. It is something that I find quite intimidating!
But first, I need to finish this tiger!

Again, thanks all of you for your welcome and hopefully I'll post a new picture on sunday!

Anyway, it's Sunday and yes, I have managed to progress a little bit more on the tiger.
This is the main thing I have learnt :
_at this scale, engraving a pair of eyes( less than 1 mm) that actually look straight at you is quite tricky.( here they are "in line", and you have to be soooo careful for them to stay like that. I hope what I'm trying to say makes sense!).
Ah, and also, I do not want to do the whiskers with a burnished point. And again, at this scale, it is a bit difficult.
I wish I could take better macro pics with my camera. I find that the tiger in the picture looks actually " flatter" than in real life.
One thing I am quite happy with is the " shade ' of black I managed to get at the top of the tiger's head.
The fact that I am taking those pictures on my bench under my fluorescent lights does not help, but I have just ordered a lightbox which should help for the future. ( I hope. Photography is still quite a mystery at the moment to me!)
Ok, well, let's hope I'll be able to work some more on it next week!

Worked a bit on the beast today.
I put the 2nd picture there so you can see that I have indeed progressed! I hope that this process does not get tedious for you to see, in which case I apologise in advance!
Quite happy with how the whiskers are coming out as I was a bit concerned that not making them with a burnished point would be very tricky.

Katia,
It is absolutely a pleasure to see the progress on the tiger. It is looking great so far!

Welcome to the forum and feel free to post as much of your engraving as you would like to!

Hello and thanks everyone for the kind words! I'm really happy that you are not bore with this and fingers crossed one day, it will be finished!!!!

PS: I am actually thinking of having it printed on a printing press and selling the prints on my website. I have never done anything like that, but who knows, maybe people might be interested!

Thanks Jörmungandr, glad you like it. It's true that it is really convenient to be able to see so much stuff from all around the world. And , erm, Likka Til?? ( the only words I know in Swedish. Ah no, I know Rakkor too! )

And Rocky, merci beaucoup. J'espere que tu vas bien in Belgium et peut-etre qu'on se voit un de ces jours, hein oufti?

Well, it's been a long time.
And i've only been able to do something with it today for the last hour.
Will it ever be finished??? Hope so, as it is now supposed to be part of a miniaturism exhibition. Damn.

PS I am struggling to post the picture. What a day.
PPS The last picture I'll post will be of the finished item. Picking up personal projects in between jobs is OK, but it can be a bit tricky sometimes to get" back into it". It just seems to be dragging on and on even though it actually isn't . Ha well...
Try and go there to see it http://gallery.me.com/michaton#100178
