I am planning to study with Sam after the first of the year. I have taught myself from the videos, books, suggestions found on this site and others. I am trying to see first hand some of the engraving that inspires me to get a better feel for the depth of cuts, the lightness of the shading. Photos are great, but to be able to put your hand on an object, gives much more info. thanks to all who share their info.

Jeff, Somehow I lost track of your being "Jetta 77". I've seen your stuff over time and admired it. Then, I realize I know you!

Maybe some time I could come down to St. George and you could teach me some things about sculpting rings. Regards, Jim

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the nice message. The ink is called etchers in. I think I have it on the school site somewhere. It is an oil base ink. It comes in a tube and you want it slightly dried out so that it about twice a thick as toothpaste. The art supply stores should have it, ie Dick Blick. It is used to smear into etched metal plates for printing.
    Thanks again, Steve
